How can we improve our attitude or mentality towards seva? By hearing the qualities, compassion and the greatness of the Lord, we will get inspired to surrender to and serve such a Lord. Then we will get free from karma by practicing bhakti. If our hearts are pure and there are no sins then we will actually relish. That’s why we emphasize so much in the beginning to hear, read, read, read, hear, hear, more and more. Because how can you love someone you don’t know?

If I say – “You should love this lady in Bangalore. She is a very nice lady. You should love her.”
“Oh, that’s … ok, I love her..”
“You should be fully dedicated to her, you should always think of her, become her lover and offer your worship to her and pay obeisances to her, surrender to her.”
“Well, can you tell me her name?”
“No, she has no name.”
“Can you tell me what she looks like?
“She has no looks.”
“Tell me – is she Indian or what?”
“No, I don’t know.”
“What are her qualities?”
“She has no qualities.”
“What are her activities?”
“She has no activities.”
“Oh that’s a very good picture you gave me!”

So we say – Oh, serve Krsna with love and devotion. But it is important to know - “Who is Krsna? What Krsna? Where Krsna? Why Krsna?”
